On her way to the bathroom she knocked and then opened Macy's bedroom door. Her daughter had fallen asleep with all her clothes on, her desk lamp still burning bright. Bonnie turned off the light and pulled the throw blanket up from the foot of her bed and covered her. Macy didn't move from her position. She was on her right side, her knees pulled up and her right arm extended straight out beyond the edge of her bed, her hand curled in a fist. Bonnie bent over and kissed her daughter on the forehead tenderly. She closed the door silently as she left. Flipping on the bathroom light, Bonnie saw the bottle immediately. It was on the sink, but the cap was off. Bonnie knew that she would never leave the bottle sitting around with the cap off. Picking up the bottle, she was surprised to find that it was empty. Bonnie couldn't breathe as she raced back into Macy's room realizing what had happened.
"Macy, Macy, wake up," she yelled, full panic in her voice. She grabbed her daughter and shook her hard.
"Stop it," Macy groaned. She opened her eyes heavily as if caught in the middle of a deep sleep.
"How many did you take?" Bonnie yelled. "How many pills did you take?"
Macy puckered her lips and began to whimper. "I'm sorry mom," she pleaded.
"How...many...pills...did...you...take?"

About the Book
This sequel to Viola's Hammer finds Ben Tucker working for the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, being sued by the family of a drug dealer he accidentally killed, living in a chickenhouse with a messed up Viet Nam veteran because his wife kicked him out of his own house, and grooming a problem with alcohol that is pushing him closer to suicide every day. About the Author
Dennis Glawe is a Board Certified Family Practice physician in Calmar, Iowa. He is a graduate of Central High School in Elkader, Iowa, and a graduate of Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. He received his medical degree at COMS in Des Moines, Iowa, and did his residency at Dwight David Eisenhower Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. He has been with Gundersen Clinic in La Crosse, Wisconsin for twenty-one years working out of their Calmar clinic. His hobbies include reading and photography.
