"Do you think that Patric knew?" asked Tom as he and Olivia walked down the driveway to the meadow and closed the gate. They could see Patric grazing by the pond. "I'm sure he did. He's such a special pony. The vet says he saved the foal's life and Melissa's too. Tom, Olivia exclaimed suddenly, "Now I understand! This is what Patric wanted. He tried to tell me. He wanted to run free in the meadow and play with his friends." Tom laughed. "Isn't that what we all want to do?" Olivia smiled up at him as hand in hand they walked back up the driveway to the barn. "Let's go and see if Melissa's had the baby yet," she said.

About the Book
This story completes the first trilogy. Previously, Patric has hidden his friend Harry the rabbit from the coyotes. The coyotes decide to eat Patric instead, but he is rescued just in time by Éclair, the white borzoi dog. In this story, Olivia takes Patric up to the barn to keep him safe.But Patric has other ideas. He is bored and lonely in the barn. His friends Harry and Froggy help him to escape and they return to the meadow and freedom, but first they must go into the house to find Olivia. Melissa, the black mare has fallen and cannot get up. Soon she will have her foal……..
About the Author
Lin Edmonds lives in California with her husband, three dogs and two ponies. She was inspired to write these stories for her grandchildren by Patric, a special pony with a sense of humor.
