Helen heard the crow flying around the room. She had forgotten to keep her hands over her face, but it was more important now, for Granny to see who she was. Then instead of appealing to Granny, she found herself appealing to God. “Dear Heavenly Father, please help Granny,” she whispered, through quivering lips.
Just then, with wings flapping, the crow flew through the open door. “Oh no, come back here crow. Oh, now what will I do?” Helen rushed to the door, but the crow had disappeared into the approaching storm.
Even without the crow, Helen was afraid. The house was dark and silent and spooky and something was wrong with Granny. She was in a real pickle now. No one knew she was coming here and her mother would be very upset to know she had come to take her basket away. She’d have to worry about that later though, because who would get help for Granny if she didn’t?

About the Author
Patricia Atkinson currently resides in Knox, Indiana where her ancestors have lived, off and on, since 1848, when her great, great- grandfather, Joseph Prosper Austin, first arrived. And even though Pat was born and raised in Michigan, she has always been a Hoosier at heart.
Pat’s interests are writing, travel, photography and the arts. Writing about people and how they act and think, is of special interest. Her extensive travel in the United States and abroad has given her many experiences to draw from, in her writing.
Pat has written two other books entitled “Winning Is Your Choice” and “Helen’s Special Christmas”.
