About the Book

The Sinner Messiah is theologian fiction, written because there is a cancer in the Body of Christ, His Church. The cancer is the apocalyptic madness which erupts as a cult devoted to a leader who is a threat to the health of the church and the peace of Society.

It is this threat which draws both the Church and the organs of Society into conflict with the cult. There is a fatalism in this clash; the cult, by its very nature, invites the clash, and the State cannot refuse the invitation. So mythic Armageddon comes and comes again, and yet again each time the Messianic demon possesses a cult leader, each time the natural charisma of spiritual leadership becomes unnatural madness, and the madness draws men hypnotically to their destruction.

The reason for this is the irresistible attraction of Power. For Power in the hand of the cult leader promises Power to the followers. The intoxicating, maddening Power generates its own abusive action and creates fear; both the Church and the State then attack the cult.

So Apocalypse comes, Armageddon is inevitable. The cult s world of madness is destroyed in the Great Battle; the larger world of the ordered Society, both Church and State, damaged and guilt ridden.

Is there no other way to deal with such fanaticism? There is. It must be left alone to eat itself and die a natural death. It may even evolve into an eccentric limb of the Body which both Church AND State can tolerate. If we have the patience and self-restraint to allow it. Otherwise we have Jonesville and Waco and the New Jerusalem you are about to see here.

About the Author

Henry Buchanan is a Baptist theologian, author of The Marriage Myth which bridges his rold as a Teller of Tales, and his purely theological fiction. The Televangelist, his first theological novel, prepares the way for The Sinner Messiah. And The Day Christ Came Back, A Modern Myth, completes the trilogy.

Buchanan lives in rural Calloway County Kentucky near the small university town of Murray. He has been a pastor, a hospital chaplain, an educator and a family counselor. Now he writes full time.
