Impetuously she knelt down and pulled off her boots, threw off her shirt and breeches and plunged into the cold water, She came up gasping for breath and began to swim. After a while she turned and lay on her back absolutely motionless, her long auburn haiir appeared black as it framed her face, floating around her. With her eyes closed and the water covering her ears she didn't hear the footsteps at the side of the lake nor the sudden splash as the tall man dove into the water. He reached her side in a few strokes and touched her arm. Spluttering and splashing she struggled to free herself from his grasp. Startled out of her reverie she couldn't understand what had grabbed her. "Oh my dear, forgive me",he gasped, trying to fend off the kicking and flailing, " I thought you were in trouble."
