About the Book

Based largely on the defection of Raya, one of Washington’s most successful cases, this is both a passionate love story and a fast paced espionage adventure. The recruitment and defection of a valuable agent is the holy grail of competing super powers. But when the "foreign asset" proves to be a beautiful woman who agrees to stay at her post as a mole she become a priceless jewel. As chief cipher clerk at the Russian Embassy in Mexico City she has access to Moscow’s secret communications between Soviet agents in Latin America.

But Washington did not count on a forbidden love affair between the sexy spy and the Company’s case officer. Only the loving loyalty and support of a patriotic Mexican woman protects operation "Aurora". But it also puts the KGB’s best counterspy hot on their trail.

About the Author

This is the second novel by the author of 5 GTC (an authorization code). It differs from his first work in two important aspects. 5 GTC is an exciting, fast paced adventure-espionage mystery story. A Defector in Place, based on an actual case, is also a sensitive love story unfolding against the backdrop of bloody aggressive guerilla operations. Kenneth Tolliver’s background includes living in Mexico, and an encounter with Fidel Castro, who implemented a program to export the Cuban revolution throughout Latin America.

Part of his early "career" was as a journalist in Mississippi. He was also the associate editor of the Delta Review magazine. Later he served on the personal staff of Senator James O. Eastland, President Pro-Tem of the U S Senate, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and significantly, chairman of the Senate Sub-committee on Internal Security. As a legislative assistant, Tolliver traveled extensively to many countries. In 1975, Time Magazine surmised correctly that he was also working in the intelligence community. He was featured on the NBC hour-long TV documentary Spies Among Us.
