circle dance –
she stood there still in Night’s Embrace her
arms crossed and her
head thrown back; she
was taller than she had to be and not quite Silent
with Prayer or Longing – leaves
rustling in the breeze
atone with her in these Solemn shores a rote
recital of a distant Song; she waited
there for you
in the moonlight her eyes dilated with
a subtle Faith and the
cherished look
of an Angel – these days stretch out
longer and longer
as we fall to the dance hips swaying
feet thrust out in
a careful imagining
of light laughter and forgiving --
in a heartbeat –
her eyes like almond slivers curtail
my intention – She
winces bites her lips intones
a subtle
shift of vocal impurity an idea
of passion
here out on the table for examination – She
bends back arches her spine
for the inclement
weather her hips Swaying she
is a cultured
wind here blowing through
my Arms
to uphold her dignity and instinct I
kiss her
with a bruised restraint Now wanting
pressure
from her thighs; We
bask in this moment when no one is Wise
and everything falls
into place
our humbling before
her

About the Book
This book of poetry is titled "Inscape" referring to the inner essence of things -- it is a continuation of the poems published in "Muse" and deals with many similar themes: a questioning of things as they are or how they could be, the nature of yearning, striving, and survival -- the bonds that keep us together and that fall apart, our communion with Nature and one another, love, hope, the possibility of the unknown, the mystery of life --
About the Author
Julian Ball, 40, was born in New York City to Charles and Eleanor Ball, both medical doctors. He has lived the major part of his life in Summit, NJ and currently resides in Montclair -- he attended Oberlin College for two years studying English literature; then, after a break, he enrolled in New York University where he majored in Spanish, spending his senior year with NYU in Madrid. He has worked as a social worker with homeless adults, adolescents in rehabilitation, women with Down's Syndrome, and tutoring men and women who have undergone incarceration -- He has enjoyed painting, writing, and making music from a young age.
