About the Book

Bettie Hamilton wrote “Sea Smoke,” laid in her 350 year old fishing town of Marblehead, MA for number 3 child, Peder the pilot, who loved to read mystery stories on his layovers.  He complained he was running out of new ones.  “Not to worry, honey,” his Mom proclaimed, blithely, “I’ll write you some!”

Thus began the saga of Lea, Tony and Lucy, the yellow lab.  Art, fishing, clamming, sailing, cooking, romance and murder are woven happily together in seven books.  Hamilton has won many awards for her painting and exhibited widely in New England and New York.  She has also won awards for poetry.  When Jack, her husband’s hobby orchard of antique apples got up to 90 trees, she sold apples from a front lawn stand and published a cook-book, “Marblehead Apples.”

Hamilton and husband live on Marblehead Harbor, two daughters, Kristina and Elizabeth reside in Australia, Jay in Hamilton, MA and Peder in Portland, Maine.  “Nevertheless, emotionally, our apples have not fallen far from the tree!”
