About the Book
Born on January 1, 1840, in New York City, Marco Barone is heartbroken at seven, when his beloved parents are killed. Put in an orphanage, beaten and bullied, Marco becomes insecure and a loner. In an adjoining old-age home, he sees the elderly enfeebled and living in deplorable conditions. Marco is deeply distressed and wants to help older people—but how? He becomes a physician and scientist, invents a drug he hopes will prevent aging, and tests it on himself on his twenty-fifth birthday. Amazingly, it works! Marco knows almost everyone will want this drug and worries he’ll be in danger if villains find out about it. He never gives the drug to anyone, and never tells anyone about it. Concerned his unchanging youth will be recognized, Marco changes his name and moves to another city, state, or country every five to ten years. During the next century and a half, he has many adventures but never love or even friendship. Decades later, Marco is back in America. He’s technically 180 but physically still twenty-five. Then he meets a beautiful young woman and might even have found love, but evil vampires learn of Marco’s secret, and want to kill him and his girlfriend to control his drug. What will become of Marco, his love, and the drug?
