About the Book

This is a story of big goals and big dreams. Our hero, Corky Sandoval, a moderately talented surfer in the 1960s, dreams of riding epic waves and winning important surfing events. He and his best friend Gabe, who was born in Hawaii, travel from coast to coast finding adventure and occasionally good surf breaks along the way. Traveling with them is a budding journalist, the red headed vegetarian Abby Colter and a pup named Skipper. Abby kept the guys focused and Skipper mostly slept. Friendships are forged as the saga continues and life gets a bit more complicated as Corky and his traveling companions go on a “surfin surfari” that stretches from Florida to New England. Meanwhile, in present day, businessman Greg Priestly is planning some serious lifestyle changes and pitching his wife on joining him in a new adventure, one that would take them on a trip along that same coastline. Even with the different settings in time, Corky and Greg would cross paths in a most unusual way. All in all, a “Semi True Story”.

About the Author

Phil Perkins is a writer, businessman and musician who lives in Richmond, Virginia and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina with wife Sandi and two pups named Skippy and Jeter. He is the author of several business books and blogs frequently. His interest in surfing and surf culture stretches back to his teenaged years when he frequently visited Florida with his parents and siblings. He is the first to admit he is not a board surfer, but had some limited experience with body surfing and skimmer boards. Hey, you have to start somewhere. Phil is a lifelong fan of the Beachboys and credits them with painting a picture of life in Southern California, woodies, wahinis and kahunas. Trips to Hawaii and Mavericks in Half Moon Bay only stoked his interest. More recently, Jimmy Buffett has carried on the tradition of songs about the beach lifestyle and carefree approach to life that so many people seek. So with Corky’s Beach Bar, Phil is presenting a second in a series of what Jimmy Buffett and Mac MacAnally call a “Semi True Stories”. Enjoy the journey.
