BENTON: Do you know what evil is? If you do, you're one up on most of us, except me, of course. I'm evil, pal. Uncivilized. A Primitive. And ya' spell that with a capital "P." We feed off of people. We're parasites. You're weak and too afraid to stand up to us. You're fools, and we hate you for it. Even our loyal followers, we despise. That fool who just walked out of here? Watch out for him. He's a snake who knows how to smile while he's putting the knife in someone's back. My kind's easy to spot, his kind isn't. They're the weakest and most contemptible of all people. To gain a friendship, they think they have to despoil someone else's name. Even I can't stomach him. Now, Jack Parsons is a challenge. He's got convictions and can't be moved from them or so they say. He ignored me in court. Me. Captain. Ralph Benton. I hate him. And, I will kill him. I have to because he's the type who can't be intimidated. You might scare him, but, he'll never be a follower. He's an individual. But, to me, he's filth.

Gerard Denza is the author and director of the Off-Off Broadway plays: Icarus, Mahler, The Dying God, Shadows Behind the Footlights, and the Housedress. He has a background in publicity at Random House and Little, Brown, and Co., where he worked with such authors as Pete Hamill, Willie Morris, Kevin and Todd Berger, and Arthur C. Clarke.
