From EDMUND: The Likely
PROLOGUE:
MARLENA LAKE’S apartment.
VOICE: Are you prepared to die?
MARLENA: No.
VOICE: You disappoint me. It is your duty to die, unquestioningly.
MARLENA: The work is not yet completed.
MITCHELL: Will there be no negotiations?
VOICE: None.
MITCHELL: I understand.
VOICE: Annihilation and, then, our terms will be met.
MITCHELL: Or?
VOICE: Or the carnage will continue until every major city in America is destroyed.
MARLENA: But, that is self-defeating and a waste of resources.
VOICE: You question the syndicate’s methods, Miss Lake?
MARLENA (Frightened, in spite of herself.): No.
VOICE: You and Mr. Soames are expendable. Your value as a human being ceased when you were recruited.
MARLENA: We have the plan for the advanced nuclear detonator. It will leave the country soon.
VOICE: It will make the blast that will soon destroy New York City look like a mere pin prick.
MITCHELL: Why not wait-
VOICE: This city will be leveled as an example of what any act of defiance will cost them.
MARLENA: Our agents are in place and have their orders.
VOICE: Has a courier been chosen?
MARLENA: He has.
VOICE: There is very little time. These plans must leave the country and soon.
MARLENA: They will.
VOICE: They must!
MARLENA: Mr. Soames and I will not fail you.
VOICE: You will not fail us! Within the month, the island of Manhattan will cease to exist.

The intriguing plots bring new twists to the life-after- death theme, time travel, the deadly politics of the opera world, the sub-culture of bodybuilding, the machinations of the world of terrorism, and the occult. Mr. Denza has a penetrating and off-beat understanding of character and motivation. Each play has its hero, anti-hero or villain and a cast of supporting characters who are memorable and entertaining.
About the Author
Gerard Denza is the author and director of the Off-Off Broadway plays Icarus, Mahler: The Man Who Was Never Born, The Dying God: A Vampire’s Tale, Shadows Behind the Footlights, and The Housedress. His I940’s thriller, Edmund: The Likely, is soon to go into production. Mr. Denza has a background in publicity at Random House and Little, Brown and Co. He has worked with such authors as Pete Hamill, Willie Morris, David Sedans, and Arthur C Clarke. He is hard at work on his new play, The Yacht.
