Early one morning as the sun began to smile down on Color Friends County, Black Bear awoke to the sound of his alarm. He stretched his long black arms into the air, placed his big bear feet onto the cold hard earth, and hopped out of his warm bed. Black Bear brushed his huge pointy teeth, washed his furry black body, and put on his big bear pocket pants. he was so nervous because it was his first day of preschool. Black Bear ate his big bear breakfast and then began his journey to learning.

About the Author
Ashley Lewis-Cook is an educator within the Texas public school system. She is from a small town by the name of Maurice, La. There she was raised in a loving and caring faith filled family with her mother (retired educator), father (retired oil field), and her two brothers (owners of TL Enterprises trucking company). After graduating from University of Texas Medical Branch (BS), Mrs. Lewis-Cook began her career in education. Her experiences include education administration, early childhood education, elementary education, and secondary education in public, private, charter, and alternative settings. She has also mentored and trained educators at the secondary level. During her career, Ashley Lewis-Cook graduated from the University of Houston—Clear Lake (MS) and completed 48 hours toward her MBA through Kaplan University. Mrs. Cook currently teaches PK-4. Ashley resides in Seabrook, Texas with her husband, Sgt. John L. Cook (educator/ coach/ behavior specialist) and her son Donald “Tre’” Broussard III. In her spare time she enjoys cooking authentic Cajun and Soul Food dishes. She also enjoys shopping, reading, watching movies with family, and attending her son’s sporting events.
