There was in Ottawa those days a Court Bailiff who loved his job (I wouldn’t) and he also freelanced repossessions for the Banks, Finance Companies, department stores and collection agencies.
I hired him for the 24 foot boat. He called the next day and said the Boat is parked in the client’s garage. The nose is in and the back end out. But he has a real vicious looking German Shepherd tied to the garage on a long chain so he feels this will keep his boat safe. He said: “I’ll get back to you tomorrow Leslie.”
The next day he called. He said: “ Your 24 footer is parked in the Ottawa Towing Compound, Leslie!”
I said: “How the hell did you pull that one off?”
He said: “Well it’s like this. This guy isn’t as smart as he thinks. Got this big boat that he protects with this police dog. But you take one look at that German Shepherd and you can see he’s skin and bones. Not being fed properly. So I went to the Manotick IGA and got me 3 pounds of bloody ground round and some chicken livers. I laid them out just inside the end of his chain far away from the garage. While the dog was gorging himself on raw beef and raw chicken livers I backed my truck up to the garage, hooked on to the boat and hauled it away. The dog never even gave me a second glance!”
I have to admit that was a fun call when I called Mr. 24 foot boat with his payout balance, bailiff and towing and storage fees…

About the Book
YOU CAN BANK ON THAT BOOK 1 takes you on a tour of the Consumer Credit Industry from Collection Agencies to Finance companies to the Loan Departments of Chartered Banks. You will be a "fly on the wall" and eavesdrop on conversations when these workplaces are open and also when the doors are closed. Aside from these insights you will track the personal life of the central character Leslie Swartman as he works his way up the ladder of a Credit Granting career. You may chuckle at some of the situations that develop, but there are also some tugs at your heart on the home front. Anyone that ever worked in Credit will relate to many of the scenarios in this story.
About the Author
The Author is a retired Bank Branch Manager who currently operates a Mortgage Consulting Business. As well, he writes a monthly Op-Ed on personal finances in a Regional Magazine. He volunteers his services as Treasurer of a local Non-Profit service that provides literacy training and job preparedness for unemployed young adults.He published his first Novel in 2009 titled "Adopted at Age Four" and is currently working on the sequel to this book.
