“What?” Joey flung the door open. I pushed past him. “You said ‘we,’ Joey! You want to tell me who the hell ‘we’ is?” I asked as I made my way to the bedroom door. There was no one there. I flung the door to the bathroom open. There was no one there. Next it was the closet, and I slid the right side open so hard it almost jumped the track. Nothing. Exasperated, I slid both doors to the other side a little slower. There he was, standing there in black Calvin Kleins. As he opened his mouth to say something, the motion of my palm and fingers sliding across his lips and teeth stopped him cold. “Dwayne, I’m so... I…” Joey stammered. “You’re so what, Joey?” Tears were streaming down my face. Without thinking, I was backing him towards the open doors of the terrace. We were on the sixteenth floor. “Dwayne, listen to me!” he pleaded. “Babe, please! I’m so…” When we got to the railing, I stopped and just stood there, looking at him through my tears, deep into his eyes. I held my stare for a long moment and then I turned around and I left the room, the hotel, and Seattle, Washington.
