This was what I wanted most from the Lord. More than anything else in the world, I wanted to be free.
Being free is not the same thing as being in remission. Being in remission means; spending every day in fear of relapse. It means raising my hand (as is the custom in twelve step groups) every day of my life to proclaim to a group and to myself that I am an incurable alcoholic and a drug addict, which for me, only reaffirms the curses of the devil over me. As long as I parroted and magnified his power over me, he would continue to use that power to destroy me. I had danced this particular dance with the enemy of my soul enough times by now to know that, at least in my case, he always won. It was time to rebuke the evil one, and give praise and honor to the Holy One who gives life.
