“Are you telling me what to do?” Jeremy snapped. “You think that you are better than me because you can disappear? Just because you walk or float through walls and drifting in and out of others doesn’t mean anything.” He was becoming very upset with her for no apparent reason.
“It’s not like that at all, Jeremy,” Gretchen replied, disturbed by his response.
“Well, I am better than you because I have more talents than you. If I wanted to right now, I could punch through the ceiling of this room and be back up there watching the parade like I had planned today,” Jeremy snorted.
“Obviously something is getting in your head, Jeremy,” Camille said. “Sometimes you say things before thinking, but you would never say that to Gretchen, ever.”
Jeremy handed Max over to Gretchen and began to jump up and down, pounding the 10 foot high ceiling with his fist on every launch. As he smashed the ceiling, pieces fell to the floor and soon the floor cracked, too. It was hard to say which was going to collapse first.
“He’s GARGING out!” Ethan exclaimed.
“It is hard to tell if he is flying or jumping,” Mercy observed. “He is part witch and part gargoyle, isn’t he?”
“Yes, but this isn’t helping us. As a matter of fact, it is probably attracting more attention to us than we would like,” Camille replied.
Reaching into her large saddlebag purse, she rustled around until she found a runes pouch that contained a vial. Just before his next fly/jump, Camille rubbed the lavender oil on him and gave some to the others, as well. Jeremy stopped his antics instantly, still breathing heavily.
Jeremy looked at Camille and said, “Lavender, thanks.”
“Lavender?” Ethan asked.
“Lavender protects against evil spirits,” Jeremy explained. “Sorry about what I said, Gretchen,” he continued, head down and looking up through his hair at Gretchen.
“I knew that something must have possessed you. I just don’t know what,” Gretchen replied.
