Shezade and the Four Winds There she harnessed Firefly herself and mounted him for one last ride in the mountains. The winds were fierce and as she trotted along she could feel them urging her to follow them south, south to the lands where Firefly had come from. The winds were strong and as Firefly galloped his hooves were so light and fast they hardly seemed to touch the ground. Under her she could feel his heart fluttering and the tremor in his body and she knew he felt the call south. The winds blew stronger and stronger and she could feel them lifting Firefly as he galloped faster across the meadows towards the palace walls. Suddenly the wind began to howl behind them and as Firefly flew faster and faster a gust of wind took both horse and rider flying into the air, up and over the palace wall to the world beyond. It was as if nothing untoward had occurred to Firefly and he galloped onwards into the plains below, following his instinct and gladly Shezade held on. The bells on his bridle ringing madly and the sound of his hooves on the ground were like gunfire. The night wore on and Shezade was born far south by the raging North wind never to return to her parents and her betrothed again. …………………………………. “The world is changing fast. Soon women will rule countries and make decisions for men. They will be business women and leaders and direct their own lives. I see this and welcome it. Shezade, if I promise always to let you have your way and to keep your freedom would you agree to be my wife?” Shezade hesitated only a little. She had never thought to marry but at that moment realised the Prince was the only man she had even considered as a partner and it was to him she had returned, not just her parents. She agreed immediately and her parents consented. “I will always see you ride as far as you want to, to manage your business and keep your wealth. I will always respect your wishes and will never restrict your desires.” She returned to her castle in the desert with her husband and every year they spent half in his realm in the South and half at the stud. Every evening she rode out into the desert and if she felt the slightest breeze she ran home and snuggled up with her husband. No wind would drive her away ever again.

About the Author
Lizzy Lloyd grew up in leafy Surrey in a family where art, poetry and literature were always part of their activities. A rich education in books, history and nature gathered together a well of awareness in story writing. Fortunate in having travelled extensively in Europe from a young age Lloyd’s understanding of German folk tales, French romances and Italian drama she was able to draw on a depth of creative knowledge. Having been a student at St Martin’s school of Art, worked as a fashion designer, picture editor and travelled frequently in France and lived in Spain she developed a broad understanding of human nature. Later Lloyd became intrigued by social care and after years of voluntary work with people with disabilities and offenders she qualified as a Probation Officer for 20 years, extending her experience and learning to become a Forensic Social Worker. Writing became increasingly a release from the traumas of real life and Fairy Tales the ultimate escape.
