Deep in misery for the loss of his first love, Colin, a very ordinary bank clerk, is transported to another world 2000 years before his own. Bewildered and frightened he comes to live with a placid and industrious tribe settled on the banks of the Severn. Initially stunned then depressed by his situation he makes the best of the skills he does have coming to realise that his greatest asset is his height. And unexpectedly falls in love with Sian, a warm friendly and supportive woman the like of which he has never experienced. He witnesses their secret pagan rites first hand and finds this simple lifestyle proves so much more meaningful than his own meagre existence in the twentieth century. Soon his peace is interrupted when he is chosen for a very special task; to map the line of the roads that will one day be followed by the Roman Army advancing from the west. Colin is transformed from an unadventurous and narrow thinking drone to an inventive, egalitarian and inquisitive tribesman and travels to other iron age villages and Roman towns where he witnesses road building, orgies and the summer solstice of the druids. Yet once he is away from Sian all he wants to do is to return to the village before their baby is born.

About the Author
Lizzy Lloyd In post-war Surrey families dreamed away the horrors of war in wooded hills and meadows and escaped into fantasy and creativity. Lizzy Lloyd grew up in this environment where reality slipped into fantasy so easily and art and poetry and literature were the warp and weft of everyday living. The 1960’s enthused youngsters into believing everything was possible and the rise of the working class hero in fashion, photography, interior design and films led her to first Art School then a career in haut couture. Ever restless she diverted into photo-editing and finally social care while moving around the country and in 1980 settled in Tewkesbury where the genius loci is very strong. In 1982 The Long Man was conceived, and several other books inspired by that region. In the last twenty years she has produced more stories of the interface between the psyche and the heart and the thin veneer between one period in history and another.
