'The Early Years, A Manchester Childhood' is the third in the Laurie Driver series. The earlier books being,'This Trucking Life, The Reminiscences of a Truck Driver' and 'The Railway Years, The Further Reminiscences of a Truck Driver.'

The latest volume deals with Laurie's formative years from his birth just after WWII, to his leaving school in 1962. It endeavours to explain what turned his thoughts to a career in haulage and tells of his adventures as a child and a young teenager, his discovery of Rock 'n' roll and the fairer sex and life in the suburbs of Manchester in the 1950's.


About the Author

Laurie Driver is the pseudonym of Dennis Burnier-Smith, a man born and bred in Manchester. He has spent most of his working life in the haulage business, working for numerous companies and driving numerous vehicles from the lowly Scammell Scarab to the modern Scanias Volvos and Mercs. He has been married to his wife Elaine for 44 years and has 2 grown up, daughters. He finished work after an industrial accident curtailed his life in transport and since then has written 4 books.
