About the Book

This book is dedicated to the proposition that dance incorporates the elements and principles of the visual arts.  Through various movements, dancers exhibit rhythm, movement, balance, contrast, line, color, texture, shape and form.  Whether it is a professional ballerina performing on stage or in rehearsal, or students learning basic steps or people whose movements show expressive content, the Invitation to Dance book is a continuation of my artistic interpretive exploration of dance and dancers.  The photographic images range from representational to highly abstract.

About the Author

Andy Zaller was born, raised and educated in New York City.  He was constantly exposed to the myriad of cultural experiences in the arts that this great city offered. His main interest was in the visual arts.  He found inspiration not only in the works of artists, but in his environment.

His educational background includes a BA (Queens College, New York City), a Masters in Art (Hunter College, New York City), graduation from The School of Visual Arts (New York City), and an Ed.D (The University of Tulsa).

He dedicated his professional career in art education as a teacher, developer of visual arts programs in high schools and at the university level, and as an evaluator and presenter for the College Board Studio Art Program. At the same time, he continued to produce and exhibit art.

Over the years, he had numerous opportunities to participate in group and solo exhibitions.  His one-man shows were held in The Performing Arts Center in Tulsa, at Oklahoma State University (Tulsa campus), in The University of Tennessee, Chattanooga), in Junction City Kansas (Junction City Arts Council) and Kansas State University’s Kemper Gallery.  Group shows included regular participation in the annual Tulsa Mayfest Invitational, a special art educators’ exhibit in the Philbrook Museum in Tulsa and in various galleries.

His previously published book Dancers is a photographic and artistic exploration into the world of dance.  Another recently published book, Z-Scapes is an expressive interpretation of scenes from his various travels over the years.  Visit his website at www.andyzaller.com.  He can be contacted at andyzoo@cox.net.
