The Waimea Gathering

They met in a beautiful Waimea Home
After forty five years from where they'd roam:
Six girls who attended a special school
At Kamehameha where they learned the golden rule
To do unto others and serve them well;
Some would excel and others fell,
But they each carried Pauahi's creed;
Eventually they'd all succeed
To become the women they aspired to be
And live their lives in harmony.
Six lovely valleys were their homes in Hawai'i
From O'ahu, Maui, the Big Island to Kaua'i
Puakea from Palolo, who used her fists,
Kanoe, the serene from Kahana's mists,
Kalihiwai's Nani, vivacious and fun,
Lihau, homely in Ha'iku's sun,
Kia, a thorn from Makaha Valley
Keala, with warmth from Waipi'o, she'd rally.
And so, to a gathering in Waimea, they came
To relate their stories of failure and fame.

About the Author

          Mahealani (Harris) Shellabarger, presently a resident of Punalu'u, Oahu, returned to Hawaii after many years of living in Santa Barbara, California. Her writings reflect life in Hawaii—reminiscent of a bygone era, revealing the uniqueness of Hawaiians, interwoven with romantic ventures and a glimpse at a distinctive culture from her perspective,

The Waimea Gathering is her fifth book after Lanikai and its sequel Lanikai Flowers, and Kahala Sun and a continuation of its story in Children of Kahala Sun.
