“Ma’am, none of the officers that were at the scene remember seeing you holding a child. Is it possible that you have left her in the care of someone else?”
“No, I have already told you. I was holding her when I fainted.” I felt the tears start collecting up and my vision went blurry and the tears overflowed and ran down each cheek. “They were looking for Allan. Allan. How is Allan? My baby is gone and Allan is gone! You need to let me talk to the paramedic that helped me when my house blew up. He saw me with Ellie. He checked her out and told me she was okay. He said she had beautiful eyes.” I stood up and wiped away the wetness that over took my face and looked at the nurse for help.
She smiled at me and shook her head that she understood and went back to the phone. This time when she came back, she was smiling.
“An officer will be up to speak with you in just a moment. They have your daughter downstairs in the Pediatric Unit. They were just stitching her up. Because of her age she was put to sleep to perform the procedure.”
“Stitches and a procedure! But she wasn’t hurt! The paramedic checked her out, and he said she was fine. She was way upstairs in her room and it wasn’t located even close to the explosion.”
“I’m just repeating what I was told from the officer who was the first at the scene of the explosion and the one who brought your daughter here for treatment.”
I sat down on the bench in the hallway of the hospital. I was shaking so terribly bad that I needed to close my eyes to control myself from hyperventilating for the second time in ten minutes. I sat and waited for the officer for just a few minutes when I noticed him come off the elevator. I was still so confused and upset that when he came and sat down next to me I starting physically shaking all over again.
“Excuse me, are you Sarah Quinn?”
“Yes I am, can you bring me to my daughter please?”
“Not yet, I need to ask you a few more questions to finish up my report. Are you aware that a bomb exploded in your home?”
“Yes, well kind of, I know something exploded. A package was delivered. Before I had a chance to open it, Allan took it and threw it into the fireplace and it blew up.”
