Light walker ; that's the first thing I remember. Although many would say their first remembrances of Yonday Guytallia was the way of his light tongue. Ah, but those are always the words of those who've been outwitted. They'd failed to observe his purposeful use of body language.
Laziness was the first thing I admired about Yonday. Many of the truly lazy people you'll meet are also the most capable of complete honesty.
Yonday was in his early 20's when we first met. he spoke several languages besides English and Romanes. He spoke Spanish, French, and what sounded like Greek to me. He said it was what little he knew of Sumerian. The main one he taught to me was Romani. I've forgotten a lot of it ; but I have picked up some Spanish and French. He was an inspired teacher.
It may sound odd(to say Yonday looked lazy) when I tell you he had a pick over his shoulder and said he was headed for The Fresh Air Camp to dig ditches, for day labor wages. I noticed he'd always look at the sky when he talked of work . And there was a slight grin, as if he was trying to insist he believed in Santa Claus even though he was too old to do so. Wouldn't look you in the eye cause he might laugh. It doesn't matter if you do laugh ; the thing is to be ever ready to.
I told you the story (in Red Bird) of our great adventure with the grasta (horses) and the Escape from the Circus. I told you of the magic tales that were told around the fire. The Darane Svatura,(tales of the supernatural) that Jaspar told of the two great eyes and the invisible one. You know that Yonday and I are both called Red Bird. Some say Phoenix.
You know of the diamond shaped structure of my skin. You know I told you Yonday was my Twin Flame. I was deliberately evasive concerning the Twin Flame concept.
It means intellect. It means more than intellect. It means the ability to see purpose, or direction, if you will. The fire in the mind is not the same with most folks. Even if it is most don't have the ability to recognize it. The Dook.
Carlos Castenada, through the character of Don Juan, calls it The Great Eagle. I call it The Red Bird. So did Yonday. As Yonday called it, in the language of Romanes, it's known as E Zhivindi Yag.

About the Book
This 2nd novel by Mr. Stevens is gritty. This book is not for the faint of heart, or, as he puts it “ The lameos,ie.the frail of intellectual endeavors and the experientially vapid ones will be plain disgusted by it.” I am in complete agreement.
There are dead body parts, mayhem, erotica, and poetry of a deeply disturbing nature sprinkled liberally throughout this subtle plea for “goodness.”
The death of his friend and mentor,Yonday, and his “funeral” caps the story. A new perspective is always what this world needs. This book has it “in spades.”
About the Author
This 2nd novel by Mr. Stevens is the second in an autobiographical trilogy. It begins with his birth in the Appalachian hills of Kentucky and follows his adventurous life through California, Canada, Mexico, and all points between. It's written in the epistolary form(as if the book was a letter to a dear friend).
His style can be likened to Kurt Vonnegut meets Jack Kerouac with Charles Bukowski as mediator. Some of the poetic stanzas have an unmistakable Edgar Allen Poe influence.
Americana at it's most avant garde.
This is the second( or middle) book in the trilogy of autobiographical novels. The first was Red Bird Just Like This. The third, Black Bird, is not yet in print.
