About the Book

Nine people have died since Pozo Negro lost their bridge in hurricane Mitch.  When missionary Allen West discovers their need, he is faced with a tremendous task. Not only does the village not have a bridge, it has no church – at all.  A local witch doctor, Don Tulio, has successfully kept all forms of religion from the village. He stands as a gatekeeper against the Gospel.  The missionary must face principalities and powers he has never faced before.  Before it is over, another will die.

Dr. Howard Pennington of the Coronado Baptist Church, along with his wife, Donna, and son, Terry, arrive in Costa Rica to begin language learning for their preparation as missionaries.  They soon learn that adapting to a new language, lifestyle and people is only the beginning to culture shock.   What would it take to send them back to the states?  They are about to find out.  The spiritual battles begin fiercely and the enemy holds no punches.

Rusty Patterson, new pastor of the Coronado Baptist Church learns of a volunteer mission project in Nicaragua to build a bridge.  He assembles a team and begins preparing them with the help of Billy Eldridge, whose brother was once a missionary to Honduras.  The team will face more than just a construction project for there is a witch doctor over the village of Pozo Negro.  It will take a great sacrifice to reach the village.

The Bridge is more than a sequel to The Breach.  It is about the role of volunteer missions, the adjustments that missionaries face in their first year, and most of all, about spiritual warfare.  It is a story about pain, about prayer, and about power.  It is a story about building a bridge physically, emotionally and spiritually.

About the Author

Randy Pool is a believer, a husband and father, a missionary and a storyteller.  Born into a military family, his travels carried him to both coasts and Puerto Rico while still a young child.  Then at the age of fifteen, his life was eternally changed by Jesus Christ.

Pursuant to a call to ministry, Randy received a B.A. degree in Religion and Greek from Union University.  He later earned his M.Div. from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary of Memphis.  While at Union, he met and married the love of his life, Cindy.

After ten years together, three children and pastoring two churches, Randy and Cindy went to the mission fields of Central America. They served as Church Planters in Honduras and Nicaragua for eleven years with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.  Randy writes from his experiences in ministry and missions with a keen eye to detail.

Randy and Cindy now live back in Tennessee where Randy serves with the Mississippi River Ministry connecting churches to poverty areas within their community.  He is still a missionary, now working through the North American Mission Board, SBC.  He sees writing as a channel of information, inspiration, as well as entertainment.

Randy has written for several Baptist publications, including Dimension Magazine, Missions Leader Magazine, Nuestra Tarea (Spanish Baptist Magazine), and The Baptist and Reflector (State newspaper).  He has two other books in print, The Breach, and Poolside Reflections – both bearing the mark of missions.

Randy enjoys life.  When time allows, he relaxes with family and friends in hammocks beneath a gallera built on their small homestead in Gibson County – a touch of Latin culture in West Tennessee.  He enjoys telling stories that bring humor to life and Christ to heart.
