Mitch turned me to him now, and his face was glowing. There was only the light from the hallway shining into the room, but I wasn’t having any trouble seeing him. He was looking deep into my eyes, his face full of love, his eyes shining with emotion. Slowly putting his arms around me, he kissed me slowly and softly. He pulled away for just an instant, brushing me lightly once again with his lips on mine.
“Dana, I love you, I love you more than anything.” He whispered.
“I love you, too, Mitch.” I said, softly.
Mitch bent down to kiss me again, this time pulling me closer to him still, holding me tighter, his hands flat against my back. I wasn’t resisting him, until I felt his hands start to drop below my waist. I pulled away from him gently, yet still holding him in my arms.
“Mitch, what are you doing?” I asked.
He bent down again, this time planting soft kisses on my cheek, moving onto my neck. “Kiss me,” he said softly, moving to meet my lips. I felt him slowly reach up to his tie and loosen it, then pull it off completely, dropping it to the floor. His kisses were now more passionate than ever before and he was pressing me tighter against him. He reached up again and his fingers fumbled to undo a few buttons on his shirt. Suddenly, I realized what he might be getting at.
“Mitch, I….” Before I could speak, he was kissing me again. I turned away, so that I could finish what I had started to say. “Mitch, I don’t think we should do this.”
I heard him sigh deeply, but he wasn’t letting up. “Why not? It’s my birthday. You’re what I want. Think of this as my gift.”
I almost laughed at the lame line he’d just given me, but I contained myself. He had lifted my sweater, and his hands were on the small of my back, moving slowly upward. I managed to pull them down, and put my sweater back into place.
“Don’t fight it, sweetheart, it’s alright.” Mitch said softly, his breath coming quicker. “It’s just you and me. I love you Dana. Let me show you how much.”
It was getting harder for me to resist him, but I knew it was the right thing to do. “Mitchell, please don’t do this.” I pleaded once more. “I can’t, I mean….”
Mitch was about to kiss me again, but he stopped and opened his eyes to look at me, still not letting me go. “Dana, why can’t you? Why can’t you just give in to what we’re both feeling here?” Then his eyes filled with concern. “Don’t you love me, Dana?”
