PUZZLING

I am a puzzle to myself
Like the weather
I am always denying
The balloons whispering
Proudly overhead
Denying the prognostications
Of Dick Alpert's printouts!

The window to my soul
Reflects Boston but mirrors Paris

I might be an orchid...black as sin...
Or purple as dusk

If I could play the flute
I'd be an artist
But I can only work at it
I am proud of that

I confess I've drawn blood
From all the goodbyes in my life

And still my whole existence
Boils down to just so much corn

ENDING

Seeds are sown and winds are blown
And I am always all alone;
Love is lost to pay the cost
Of having hearts done 'oer with frost;
I will dance and I will sing
Though I'll wear no wedding ring;
I will laugh and I will cry
And soon the world must make me die;
Funny but I don't care now;
For what's the use of the here and how
If everywhere the creeps crawl out
To turn your hopes and dreams about?
I have known what few hearts know
And for this I will ever grow
Till that peace-filled moment when
Someone murmurs "What might have been!"
And you, my Love, will light my death,
Even as you took my breath;
And all my passions never spent
Will burn where Truth and Truelove went.
