Preview – “A Father’s Love”

Colonel Issac Yamir streaked in low over the coast of Lebanon in excess of 600 miles per hour. He rounded a rocky hill in a steep left bank.  His eyes widened at what he saw. He instantly rolled upright, slammed the stick into his lap and hit afterburner.  The “G Suit” activated immediately, keeping all his blood from being forced into his lower extremities.  The F-16 snapped into a rocketing vertical climb.  Tracers streamed after the rapidly climbing F-16 and two SAM missiles were launched to bring him down.

The anti-missile alarm sang in his ears.  He slammed the stick hard left and dove for the coast.  The missiles were still tracking and closing.  He launched countermeasures and banked hard right.  One missile took the bait.  He hauled back on the stick. 

He both heard and felt the explosion.  His instrument panel lit up like a Christmas tree.  He had no control. 

He pressed the transmit button hoping that somehow his radio still worked, “Mayday, mayday this is Blackbird One, Blackbird One. Many tanks, many armored personnel carriers, many trucks to the north.  Ejecting in grid Bravo Two Zero, repeat Bravo Two Zero.

Colonel Issac Yamir ejected at 12,000 feet just off the coast of Lebanon. He had been warned about the dangers of ejecting at such a high speed, but he was in no way prepared for the violence of both the ejection and the wind blast.  He immediately blacked out. A few seconds later he was revived by the cool air. He felt a sudden sense of helplessness hanging 10,000 feet above the water.  He wished the chute had opened at a lower altitude.

The President grabbed the phone, “Mr. Prime Minister are you there?”

“Yes,” again an immediate reply.

‘Sir, our satellites just came back on line and we see are what appears to be hundreds, maybe thousands of vehicles approaching the borders of Israel on three sides!”
