Like everything else in life this was being prepared for him. Here, hopefully, he would learn something about himself, life, and respect. The boy learned something for himself that will affect the rest of his life. Each institution has the basics foundation established to enhance the roots of life, in their different perspectives. An individual’s life in the world is tainted, and touched by the different establishments the individual experiences through their lives. With the years of experience this administration has to impact the boy’s life, they offer a contribution to affect the boy. Their affect is hoped to bring a semblance of discipline, obedience, and conformity into his life.
This establishment focuses on a military education, instilling discipline and character development. This experience is different from that of a psychiatric hospital’s influences and what changes the individual establishments bring into an individuals life. The enrichment provided to the individual is different since the integrity of the establishment stands a test in life. The experiences encountered treat the boy in a respect that he has potential, and ability to make the grade in life. The parents have not given up, or resigned their faith to the psychiatric institutions but bestowed the faith in a military academy institution.
The parents have considered the psychiatric route at this stage in the boy’s life, but hopes existed that his education could bring about a healthy change. The interjection of regimentation, rules, and guidelines that affect personal living could narrow down the discipline problems in the boy’s life. With these problems in view, the academy administration could affectively deal with them. Working through these problems, the boy would start a path where thousands of students have walked before.
The parents nearly had to assign the boy to juvenile hall, and the penal system. Incarceration in jail was a route where they would accept the criminal system methodology for their boy, and have faith that time served behind bars was going to result in a better citizen in the community. There his associations with the criminal element were considered that he would learn and acquire worse problems then the friends in the neighborhood were teaching. The warden, guards, and other inmates would be the teachers in helping him to learn a lesson. The personal reflections, learning from others experiences, and personal drive to do his time never to return would be the lessons to learn.
The established regimen of the military academies establishment has documented success stories. Their experience in dealing with students: of his age, with his attitudes, and his abilities have shown results. The structured living situations, established education surroundings, and incorporation of the military influences; would be experienced by the corps of cadets as a whole. The corps of cadets consists of fellow peers, subordinates, and senior ranking students. Each member of this student body started their path in the corps of cadets at the same place. They all came in as plebes or new cadets.
Upon entrance the students have the same starting point. They enter plebe or new cadet training very similar to the military boot camp. The start at beginning for the first year of their education, they exist at this state, learning the foundations, experiencing demanding respect, and exhibiting discipline. The cadets exist as plebes throughout their first year at the academy. For this entire year they have no stature of military rank, and there is minimal freedom to break the rules of the establishment.
The bulk of life in society is broken down into many components. The plebe’s existence as a new cadet into the academy, the expectations placed on continuance of their education through school, and regimented cadet extra-curricular activities. Plebe’ life, school interactions barrack associations, and policed clean up details fill their existence through the required schedule of daily living. Demands of proficiency are placed on the cadets attended school schedules with structured study halls during the evenings. Available, scheduled, structured extra-curricular activities exist to fill the cadet’s time outside of their military demands and school expectations.
The corps of cadets polices itself. Cadets in subsequent years obtain rank accompanied with responsibility, and status. Military ranking of seniority is in effect here. Fellow cadets become responsible for the governance of the entire student body. Peers become a self-governing body of authority. They all exist with the common basic experiences of their first year. Their accomplishments, achievements, and excellence are rewarded with acquiring rank in the establishment in subsequent years. No first year cadets receive rank.
The cadet regimentation supplements lives existing authority with lines of ranked students. The various dynamic entities in society are paralleled in the academy, and supported with varying levels of status acquired by the cadets. The parallel world is developed. It polices, controls, and checks the balances in and amongst itself.
From the captains down to the privates the cadet chain of command keeps a balance. The boy will face a captive state of being where he is left to himself. His actions will be governed, his expressions of ideas monitored, and the cadets will judge themselves. Taking the wrong steps will be faced with disciplined guidance from amongst his peer the fellow members of the corps of cadets. Overseeing the functions of the corps, are the faculty members, and academy administration. These individuals are military personnel, and authorities to guide the corps of cadets.

The Silent Vow gives many different angles and views of looking at an adolescent’s drugs habits. The ways of a child as drugs were more important than the graduation from high School, and yet the boy graduated with his class. The lessons in life that this boy learned were drastically different than his classmates. And how many times can an individual violate the trusts of parents, siblings and friends. Mending of the ways, redeveloping trust, and regaining self control will take a lifetime. Therapy and Medication have helped to sustain a life after the abuse of illegal chemicals. The many Insights helping to avoid the corruption of the drugs addiction is seen throughout this writing.
Every time the substance abuse enters into life the destruction of what progress was made is destroyed. There may not be any physical signs, but chemical and substance abuse interferes with the emotional development of a person’s well being and healing. These substances also interfere with the nurturing and healing of friendships and relationships. The decision for an individual is a personal one, and it is up to the individual to say “yes or no.” Only the reader can find some solutions offered in The Silent Vow.
The choice to consume substances stands alone. Each and every person needs to choose their poisons. Some have worst aftermaths than others, and each has their own non monetary costs. These non monetary costs are not only in health, but they exist in the mental abilities, emotional impacts of tolerance as well as the relations with others that become impaired. As some can endure substance abuse there are all of those stories where the emergency room was needed for friends that used drugs. This Boy was one of those friends that needed the emergency room. This boy has found ways to stay clear of the need of emergency room assistance.
The learning Maintenance and prevention skill is a personal task. Each person has different prevention skills that work. What may work for one may not work for others, and yet some that work for one work for all. Through trial and error, substance abusers learn how to find the powers to sustain their addictions from becoming active. And through learning from experience there can be one less actively using substance abuser. Through these experiences there will be less personal values lost to the problem.
About the Author
James Stewart lived many of the situations expressed in the Silent vow, but not all were from actual existence. Many situations may have been out of conversations, and graphic relations dictated to him by others that have also lived a life similar to the one depicted in the story. There came a time in James’ life where he discussed issues with many people who suffered the consequences of the drug world. The complexities of how the habits and addictions take little to start and restart, yet takes nearly everything from the lives of those that falter.
James suffered as he may have self medicated when the perpetual use of drugs was his temporary answer to his problems. His life’s problems only grew worst as the stakes in life became larger. His trust in friends, family, and reality was lost as his friend’s, family’s and reality’s trusts in him were lost.
His years of education in public school, private military academy, psychiatric facilities, College for a BS diploma, and sustained employment allowed him to capture his more troubled issues so he could share the problems as well as the insight with others. There were so many times his lessons of learning would divert his associated friends away from the detrimental complications of substance abusive behaviors. He has now captured many of those insights for others to profit.
