Headlong Through Life

For the next two weeks I only drank beer.

My logic was I would be OK as I had already detoxed. I made all the preparations for me to be gone for a month.

These included providing the things required for my wife and daughter.

On a Sunday, February 6, 1985 I drove myself to the Treatment Center. On the way I had many thoughts about the place. What I decided was I would drive around the place and see what it looked like. If it did not measure up to my standards I would simply go back home.

At this time I did not have shoelaces in my shoes because I could not tie my shoes. I shook so bad I could hardly drive. At the stoplights I would try to remember what the colors of the lights meant.   

When I arrived at the Treatment Center I drove around the facility. It was very impressive.

It was in a fine neighborhood and looked very professional. I made the decision. It would be satisfactory to my needs.

I got out of the car and walked in the front door. A gentleman walked up to me and I said, “My name is Dick C”.

This story has been broken into three books. This was done because the story becomes too long.  

The second book, “Return To Sanity” will be available in the spring of 2003.  The third book, The Shark Tank will follow thereafter.

I hope my story provides some measure of inspiration and hope for those that still suffer from this terrible disease.
