Barrone Devore the Third was very anxious to talk to John Carlyle by phone. John Carlyle was Barrone’s New York international lawyer. Barrone was a very handsome owner of the wineries of Tuscany in Italy. John and Barrone were schoolmates in Tuscany. When John Carlyle was married he moved to the United States settling in New York City.
Angelia was born the first year of his marriage and his wife died during childbirth. Barrone did not meet Angelia until she was ten years old. Angelia was beautiful even at ten years of age with dark hair and eyes that attracted Barrone from the very first meeting.
The agreement was made between John Carlyle, Angelia’s father, and Barrone that Barrone and Angelia would marry on her twenty-first birthday, providing her father would have her tutored in business management so she would be qualified to manage the winery. She would then inherit it at Barrone’s death.
Angelia came from good stock, her mother was beautiful with dark brown eyes and her father a very dark and handsome man. At the age of twenty-one she was to be able to speak French and English well and she already knew Italian as a child. She was also expected to be educated in music, as well as art history. Barrone wanted Angelia perfect and knew that if he expected it that he would have it accomplished by John.
Barrone had never been married and made it very clear he did not want children. Barrone had women that he had loved and wanted no more of this in his life. He now wanted to marry Angelia and live in the lap of luxury. He wanted to marry into a family qualified to his own. Being an arranged marriage, it could be accomplished.
Barrone had not seen Angelia since the age of ten. Five years had passed and at the age of fifteen she was a real beauty - filling out as a lady should. He couldn’t keep his eyes off her. She was very beautiful. Happiness took place the moment he saw her. He was very attracted to her body as well as her mind. Her father indeed had done a good job.
Angelia was also attracted to Barrone and wanted him to spoil her with anything he had on his mind. She was still young and must learn to be patient to wait six more years to marry. Barrone intended one day later to tell Angelia about the other women that he had had. Rather than do that now, he would just like to spoil her and love her at the same time.
Barrone said, “Angelia, I would like you to start writing to me at least once a month and express your feelings to me. I will in return write to you, and we will get acquainted very quickly and become very close.”
Angelia said, “Barrone, I love your ideas, and you are so gentle when you touch me.”
Barrone smiled and winked at Angelia. He thought, “Someday she will really be mine.”
Angelia prayed every evening before bed that the time would pass quickly. She prayed, “Please bring Barrone to New York on business more often.” Time passed slowly and Angelia would practice her piano.
Angelia called to her father, “Sit here and listen and see if you think Barrone will like this song?”
“Barrone will like anything you play for him,” her father replied.
“Thank you, Papa.”
Angelia was delighted that her father thought she was good.
Angelia’s nanny, Sylvia, said, “We must work hard on our French so when Barrone takes you to Paris, you will be ready to speak fluently to others and that will please Barrone.
“Practice, practice - that’s all I ever do.”
“That’s why I am your nanny so that you will learn quickly child; it just takes perseverance to accomplish the things that you want the most.”
“I love you Sylvia for caring about me and making me the very best that I can be.”
“Now lets stop, Angelia, and have a cup of tea with lemon and some crustolli.”
When Angelia became twenty, she and Barrone had been writing love letters for five years. Now the time was coming closer for them to marry.
