INTRODUCTION Over the past ten years as a priest in parish ministry, I have found the following poems, scriptures to be very helpful to the families who grieve. Knowing that in times of loss and death one never knows the right thing to say or the right thing to do; so as a help in such times. This booklet has been put together to help those in the process of grief as well as an aid in planning the services. The poems are those that I have discovered written anonymously (and I have touched up anonymously). They express the faith that we have in Jesus who is alive. In the comforting of one another in times of death we say "God is a God of the Living" and that our loved ones now live in HIM who creates life and sustains life beyond death. The variety of Scriptural options presented, allow us to celebrate the life and faith of our loved ones. With their mission in life accomplished, according to God's eyes and plan, we see now in faith that they live in a good place and they are at peace. Many articles have been written on grief. A Traveler ventured forth one day
INTRODUCCION Durante los ultimos diez anos de mi vida sacerdotal y al servicio comunitario parroquial, he tratado de consolar a familias afectadas por la muerte. Uno nunca sabe la profunda tristeza que existe por la perdida del ser querido y cuales son las palabras adecuadas que podemos expresar nuestros sentimientos de condolencia. Por la ayuda y la inspiracion del Espiritu Santo he podido escribir el librito para planear los servicios de los defuntos; las oraciones puedan ofrecer consuela en estos momentos de dolor. Las poemas expresa la Fe que tenemos en Jesus "la vida y la resureccion." En el proceso de consolar uno a otro decimos que "Dios es Dios de los Vivientes," y que nuestros seres queridos ahora viven en Dios que crea vida y sostiene vida más allá de muerte, "mas alla del sol." El libro se presentan una variedad de opciones que nos deja celebrar la vida y la Fe de nuestros queridos difuntos, con sus misiones cumplidas en vida, segun los ojos y ‘el plan de Dios.’ Vemos en Fe ahora que viven en lugar bueno y estan en la paz de Dios.

Upon a long and winding road,
With faith and trust to lead the way,
With strength and will to bear the load.
So at a slow but steady pace,
In cold of storm, in warmth of sun,
He journeyed on from place to place
And gained some value from each one
Until one night, he climbed a hill
And saw afar a single light
That seemed to promise peace and rest.
So following its glow
He came upon a house in which shone the light.
A voice inside called out his name
And told him he was truly home.
The welcome he received was such
That now he lives in eternal bliss.
Now all of us must travel too –
Like His, our paths wind slowly on,
And surely when our time must come,
We too will hear those words
"Welcome, my little one!
Come in and rest awhile
You too must feel eternal peace."

By Jackie Reno In 1997, when my daughter Melissa was in our backyard a driver drove his car though the fence and killed her. Five years later, my husband and I still grieve her sudden death. She was only twenty-eight years old. Fr. Tony gave me the book he had written, Comfort Those Who Grieve. Since my grief is still so strong, it sat on my desk for five days before I even had the courage to pick it up and open it. As I began to read it, I can not even begin to tell you the peace that I felt. I gave it to my husband Joe to read it as well. In agreeing to write the forward to this book that has brought so much peace back into our lives, I know that this book will be a great help. When anyone loses someone they love so much, they need a book like this as a tool to help find peace of soul and a gradual acceptance to death. This is not a book on death and dying. This is a book that allows those who are grieving to overcome grief by faith, that makes life worth living. The Scriptures and poems bring the insights of faith and life together and help one through the darkness of death into the dawn of new life and hope. 1. It has material to help plan the funeral services - poems, scriptures etc. 2. It has insights on dealing with one's grieving beyond the services, into the days and months ahead. 3. It has scriptures that allow us to look beyond the sadness and to see our loved ones now at peace in God, the angels, and saints above. 4. It keeps the elements of Elisabeth Kubler Ross's five stages of death and dying in the process of grief.
