This is a true-life mystery story, inspired by actual events and experiences, a strong, sweet love affair that went sour between Freddieo and Raggieo Temple, leading to a powerful love for revenge that led Freddieo to want to get even with his wife Raggieo and their children! I, Doug Temple, their son, is caught in the middle of a raging revenge that turns into hate, violence, child abuse, wife abuse, assault and battery, adultery, attempted murder, police frame-ups, and eventually death. It is astronomical how Doug, stays alive. It almost seems like a miracle, that Doug didn't also end up a "DAMN SHAME": dead, homeless, doing time in jail, jobless, hooked on drugs, or in a street gang like most of his peers that grew up in Gary, Indiana, nicknamed "SIN CITY"! ONLY "GOD" was THERE FOR DOUGLAS TEMPLE!!!! "IT'S A SHAME" IS FAST-PACED, THRILLING, ADVENTUROUS, SUSPENSEFUL, AND YOU WILL HATE TO STOP READING IT ONCE YOU GET STARTED. Before you start reading Chapter One, It's amazing how many times Doug's life was endangered while writing this Factual Novel, as though someone or some people are afraid of the truth coming out! I never meet all of my father's side of the family, possibly related to the inventor, Dr. Pemberton,of "Coca Cola" the number one selling soft drink in the world! "Coca Cola" was liced with cocaine back in the days, maybe this is the reason my father's kin were so corrupt, almost like an "Organized crime syndicate"! Believing in the "Predestination Idiot Syndrome!" You know the way you look is the way you suppose to live, in other words, if you look like a woman to them and you were a male you were suppose to have a "sex change"! Crazier than that, if you looked thuggist you were to be a soldier, so to speak, and push dope, murder and run numbers! Believe it or not, if you were born poor, you were to stay poor in this Great American Country of ours, full of opportunity! When it comes down to religion, which they were mainly Catholics, meaning no other religions accepted, and this is how the "MESS" all started! But before I go any farther, I was amazed at how many of my Father's Kin looked exactly like me! Using my innocence for their corruptness! Look at how many people, now days are locked up, kidnapped or missing, gun shot up, or highly disrepected because they think it was them! Have you ever been called something out of the clear blue sky, because of a mistake in Idenity! Damn, I have been locked up, gun shot at, sort after for harm's wrong-doing, threaten so many times that I knew something wasn't right with this picture, Very Frenzy instead! So I figured out as much of the puzzle as possible without getting KILLED! I became my own undercover agent not for the SAKE of my own safety, but for my one and only DAUGTHER'S Safety, especially! It all started in the little quiet city of EVANSTON, ILL., back in 1947!!

Douglas is the son of Freddieo and Raggieo, for whom wedlock marriage didn't workout, but instead turns into a revengeful nightmare of hate, violence, wife-abuse, child-abuse, adultery, police corruptness and attempted murder!
The odds are astronomical on how Douglas stayed alive during his forty years of life! It's seems like a miracle that Douglas who was forced into a street gang at the age of seven, just in the third grade, didn't also end up a damn shame, meaning mentally sick, homeless, doing time in jail for murder, hooked on cocaine or heroin, or murdered!
GOD has made it possible for Douglas to meet influential and famous characters in his lifetime that guided him in the right direction! For example, he has met Michael Jackson and Jackie Jackson of the Jackson Five, Casey Lemons, creator of the movies Eve's Bayou, and Mr. Bakeer, the author of novel, Crips, which was turned into the movie South Central. He has met the Rev. Jessie Jackson, and Richard Hatcher, the first black mayor of U.S. city. The person with the most impact on my life, however, is my fourth grade teacher! It's a Shame is adventurous, suspenseful, shocking and gives you the reader the perfect example of why you shouldn't ever abuse your children!
About the Author
Born in Evanston, Illinois, Douglas Lowell Pemberton has spent the past twenty years in Los Angeles, California, where he was employed as a postal employee until his retirement in September 1994, due to occupational asthma. Douglas is currently a teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District. He gleaned the ideas for Slick from the lives and experiences of his mother and himself, and, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and a minor in art, he was able to put a creative spin on the events fate had bestowed upon them. In addition to spending time with his seventeen-year-old daughter, Arista Porche, Mr. Pemberton also enjoys singing, watching movies, reading, writing, and participating in many sports. Slick is his second published work; Price of Forbidden Love is his first.
