About the Author
Thomas R. Hendrick, affectionately known as “Happy” by his nine grandchildren—soon to be ten when Ezra arrives in January 2026—began writing after realizing his own name was missing from the shelves of his diverse personal library. Surrounded by travel guides, mysteries, Bibles, how-to books, car manuals, and romance novels, he thought, why not write one myself? A proud U.S. Navy veteran with eight years of service and a decade in law enforcement, he brings a depth of real-world experience and discipline to his storytelling. His first book in the Detective Sam Ackerman series, To End a Bloodline, was published in 2016, followed by Murder in the Sun in 2023. Between those two mysteries, Hendrick took on a very different project: a political-historical novel titled What If They Knew. In it, five of America’s founding fathers are transported to the year 2025, shown the nation’s history, and then returned to their own time—only four minutes after they left—with one haunting question: “Is this the America you intended it to be?” The novel was published in 2020, adapted into a screenplay in 2021, and went on to win nearly 20 film festival awards.
