About the Book

This is the autobiography of England’s first blind author to physically write a book without aid. Many years ago Vendon taught himself to touch type and has been surprising the world with his gift of insight ever since. He finds ways of enjoying life to its fullest, despite his crippling disability. During his struggles with his failing eyesight, he encounters more unexpected news from his doctor. He is now going both deaf and blind. He battles through immense emotional turmoil, falling into depression and lifting himself out of it again with God’s help. It is a journey of desperation, disbelief, acceptance, survival and triumph told in his rather unconventional style of snappy dialogue mixed with racing inner thoughts that display the true crisis he is going through. He jumps across timelines and emotions, expressing the chaos that is forced upon his life through his circumstances. Join him on his journey and find out how some disabled people cope with their diagnosis. There are many tips on how to manage difficult issues and challenges we may encounter during our lifetime. The stories will certainly make you laugh and even cry at the same time but will inspire you to see the brighter side to life. Vendon is able to give insight into a world where disability is an uncomfortable topic, where the NHS has two faces, one emotionally disconnected, the other surprisingly engaged. All of this is set amongst the rising tension between different race groups in England. He indeed makes a reference to the New Cross Fire of 1981 which led to the Brixton Uprising. It is a gripping true story full of dark humour, aimed at people seeking guidance for the challenges we must all face in life as well as highlighting disability awareness. A must read. About the Author

Vendon Wright was born in Rugby, Warwickshire on the 6th of August 1966. He was registered blind at the age of 28. After many years of struggle, he learnt to accept his disability and focused on his abilities instead. He taught himself to touch type, using a talking computer. He writes his books in total darkness at night and wakes up with purpose each morning. Vendon attained his 8th Dan Black belt for Taekwondo, in July 2025, marking 40 years since his first involvement in the sport. He was registered as the first blind Grand Master of Olympic Taekwondo in England. Vendon tragically lost both his sister, Ali and his brother, Leroy, within weeks of each other in January 2020 and much of his work is written in fond memory of them. Vendon plays a vital role in his local community, involving various people in his altruistic aims of shaping the youth of today and inspiring them to be their best and behave with integrity and dignity. As a new born Christian, he also heads the men’s group at his local New Testament Church of God, NTCG.
