Her Demons

When I left Charisma the other night, she was in a bad way. I just hope she got some sleep that night. I was late for work this morning and overslept, but I got in there just in time for the morning meeting, and thirty-minutes before I had to see my first client. The day went by smoothly and when I got home, I took a bottle of wine from the fridge that I had on chill and turned on the radio in the living room. I asked, “Are you okay and what do you need me to do?” She said, “It is time. The time has come, it can’t wait any longer.” I told her to sit down and let me get dressed. I threw on a pair of black sweatpants and a black t-shirt. When I returned, she was sitting at the kitchen table rocking back and forth. She looked up at me and walked down the stairs and out the front door and I followed her. We got in her car, and talked about the plans we made over ten years ago. She talked about the moment he entered her space, the moment he violated her soul, and the moment he violated our soul. I could feel her anger as it overtook my thoughts as she talked about that night so long ago when Kwame and his crew raped her. As she talked, I got madder and madder, my anger began to overtake me. She stopped at the corner on Melon Place and Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE…that was the place John-John said we could find him on any given day and tonight was our night. We sat in the gas station lot and watched him and his crew as they walked the block and sold drugs…one of the guys even came up to the car and asked if we needed anything; the way we both looked, anyone would have thought we were on drugs. Her eyes were red from crying and mine were red from anger. We sat there for what seemed like hours when Kwame got into his car and pulled off. Charisma immediately started the car and followed him. We made sure to stay a few cars behind him. He went straight down MLK Jr. Ave SE to South Capitol SE which turns into Indian Head Highway; he then took the exit on the right towards 495 South going towards Virginia…he took exit 176 Fort Belvoir off 495 South; we followed him close; he rounded the exit and kept straight on Richmond Highway into Virginia, going towards Alexandria, VA… he kept straight through four lights and made a right by Blast Teddies. He made the next left and pulled up to a house that sat in the middle of the block. Me and Charisma had followed him here many times before, but today was different. He pulled into the driveway and turned off his lights. He sat in the driveway for about fifteen minutes on the phone. We parked a few houses back and watched him. John-John had provided me with the access code for the security system.
