About the Book

One day while sitting on a small hill, a young girl watches a Red Shouldered Hawk land on the branch of a nearby tree. Within the mystical realms of enchantment, she is able to talk with the hawk. A friendship is formed and the hawk allows her to ride upon its back to experience the wonderful, joyous feeling of flying.

About the Author

Growing up and spending my life in the Sierra Nevada foothills and mountains close to Yosemite National Park, I have always spent a lot of time outdoors, working, playing, hiking, camping, birding and just observing. Nature plays a big part in my life and it comes out in the stories, songs and poems I write. I had written quite a few short stories, children’s stories and songs, though I’d yet to publish anything. One day Dede, a friend of mine who owned a daycare center where my grandchildren went, called me up and said, “Jason, you’ve got stories and songs. Could you do something to entertain the kids this coming Wednesday? I need someone to fill in.” Of course I said yes, though I had nothing ready, but I had a couple of days to prepare. So I took this story and drew up some pictures using colored pencils, although nothing as good as the pictures here for I am not an artist. Along with my guitar and a few songs to sing, I read it to the group of children, and the response was so overwhelmingly good I decided to get it published.
