About the Book

Callie has traveled around the world and during those travels it became clear to her that no matter where we hail from or what our life experiences may be, we all have hopes, fears, and dreams. We all want to find friends that will accept us for who we are and we seek places where we can feel completely like ourselves. Pinkacorn came to life as a gender neutral unicorn that all children can relate to. The message that Callie wants children to take away from Pinkacorn is the importance of being yourself no matter how different you may feel. Parents and children alike will be captivated by the rich, beautiful illustrations, and the depth of the message expressed in its clever rhyming scheme. There is a place for everyone in the world of Pinkacorn.

About the Author

Callie Combest is an entrepreneur, small business owner and artist in a variety of mediums. This is her first exploration into the children's literary world. Callie's positive outlook on life and ability to overcome hardships is reflected in the main character as we take this first journey with Pinkacorn. This book was inspired by Callie's niece Paisley, who first discovered a stuffed "pinkacorn" in the aisles of a local toy store. As she reflected on the idea, Callie realized she wanted to tell a story about growing up different while still being able to discover the things that we share in common with others. The original art that brings Pinkacorn's journey to life was created by Anneliesa (Lela) Liedle. Lela and Callie met on a trip while teaching English in Southern China, and the influences of that trip shine through in the mixed media art of Pinkacorn.
