Two giant sycamores keep watch over a little wooden bungalow house. From their vantage point, the billboard signs on the street are within plain view, and lately it’s all about the cactus and how "cool" it is. One of the sycamores decides he wants to be just like the cactus. So, he gets on the computer, and orders the finest cactus spines from Mexico. He also orders cowboy boots but finds it is quite a challenge to get his stringy roots into that pointy toe! When he begins to feel sick, the sycamore tree eventually discovers that he is perfect, just the way he is.

A very beautiful story about the destruction of materialism and superficiality within our society! Professor Quesada beautifully illustrates the importance of embracing individuality through the story of the sycamore tree and the contribution that each being brings to society. In our society, especially with the emergence of social media, we are so easily swayed by the promise of things like beauty and following trends that we forget that each of our differences brings something incredibly unique and valuable to the table! I thoroughly enjoyed this story :).

This book was super inspirational to read. The pictures inside the book were hand-drawn and enjoyable to view. The book also had a great message about a tree. This really opened up my eyes to being unique and my own person! Definitely recommend this book to all age groups!

This was such a beautiful and meaningful book regarding the lack of depth in our society. The illustrations and diction convey the message in such a simple, yet effective way that makes it easily understandable for children. I enjoyed reading Quesada's book that has a powerful message: Appreciating our uniqueness and the difference we have with others. The Sycamore felt sick after trying to be as cool as the cactus. This book is a useful tool for young people in the current age of Social Media. There is a lot of pressure to be like "them." Such societal pressure compels our children to engage in harmful activities that make them appear cool or acceptable. This insightful and straightforward book opens the eyes to how we end up hurting in the strife to conform.

I absolutely LOVE this book! It tells such an important lesson in a sweet and simple way. It highlights the yearning of us all to be better, to look better, to want to be somebody else. But it then teaches us why this yearning is not the answer... We were created exactly how we should be. The paintings in the book are incredible, as well, and the author does such a great job at bringing to life the feelings of this special Sycamore Tree. LOVE IT!
