This is Lucy. She is my friend. She has a desk. It is right next to mine. She has a book bag. It is the same as our friend Zoe. Lucy has a hard time staying still in class. She will often play at her desk, make noises, or leave where we are learning. At these times my teacher will remind her to take a break or use her fidget items. This can help Lucy focus and finish her work. Sometimes we even take a break as a class. This helps everyone. Even our teacher! My friend Lucy will sometimes yell out answers in class or will talk when we are working. It is hard for Lucy to wait her turn. If this happens, my teacher will remind the class to be respectful of others. Then he gives Lucy another chance to try. Lucy can finish her work very quickly. If this happens my teacher gives the class a reminder, for us to do our best. This helps us to remember to check our work before moving on to the next activity.

About the Book
My Friend Lucy is told from a classmate’s point of view about her friend with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The student explains some of her friend’s characteristics that can accompany ADHD along with situations that may occur and strategies that can be used in the classroom. My Friend Lucy is designed to help teachers explain ADHD to students in a way that will promote understanding and foster positive peer relationships in their classrooms.
About the Author
Eve Pollard Lawrence received her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Radford University and her Masters in Special Education from Old Dominion University. She currently works as a teacher of students with special needs in Yorktown, VA. Whenever possible, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two wonderful daughters, Leah and Zoe. Eve has a passion for teaching and loving students of all abilities. Through this book she hopes to help provide teachers with a positive way to prepare their students for some of the situations that occur and characteristics that can accompany children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. All in a way that easy for children to relate to and understand.
