Chapter 1
OK, so I’d made a complete pig’s ear of things…..
Life was never going to be the same again….
An apparently comfortable, middle class existence, living in the big house in the country, with a few acres, lawns, orchard, kitchen garden, and a nice big workshop, vintage car nestling in the corner, gravel drive, black Labrador…..
Range Rovering the kids to private school every day…..
You know the sort of thing.
Anathema to some, ….subject of envy to others.
All down the proverbial pan in less than 24 months.
Chapter 7
The bang was enormous!
It was like an atomic explosion!
The boat seemed to come to a complete dead stop.
It was dead in the water.
I was on the floor of the cockpit, looking at the reddish brown floor boards in the light of the low cockpit lights.
It was my blood staining the boards, of that I was sure.
I was dead on the floor.
I’d often tried to imagine, as a faithless, total non-believer in any sort of God, what the ‘next world’ would be like.
Or would it all just end?
Lights out.
Chapter 15
The hand was now quite visible, sticking out from beneath the logs.
How had I not realised before that my dreams were actually reality?
I had shared my sleeping quarters with a dead body!
Clearly it was dead. Had been dead for quite some time. I was no expert on dead bodies, but one knows rotting flesh when one sees it.
This one should have recognised the smell also!
The flesh had a green tinge to it, and on the edge of the palm had sloughed off the bones. This is what I had touched in the dark, and I instinctively wiped my hand on my trouser leg.
Chapter ....
Bodies close.
Sabine slept.
For the first time I really looked at the girl close to.
She actually was very pretty, not beautiful as such, but very attractive. Blonde hair, honey coloured skin, almost without a blemish, long eyelashes, pert lips (very kissable I imagined!)…. Oh, I could go on, but you must use some of your own imagination here…….she was just; well,…. lovely.
So, once again, against all the odds I’d fallen on my feet, well actually onto a comfy sofa bed, but……….

“Journey to a New Life” in a nutshell:

This is a story that starts as factual, describing in some detail how I lost nearly £1,000,000 of other people’s money and £750,000 of my own because of a change in the law, which my expensive solicitors didn’t tell me about! The fat cats of both the legal and accountancy profession then milked the situation, and as far as I know, investors got nothing back, despite the intervention of the Financial Services Authority. I say despite it all, it was probably because of their initial intervention the investors lost everything!
Anyway, the story then descends into adventurous half-truths, stretched imagination, and a huge amount of wishful thinking.
Some names have been changed to protect the innocent, some haven’t, and others are by inference only.
Some place names, distances, and locations have been slightly modified to suit the second part of the story, but you can actually follow my journey across part of France either by bike, car, or if you so wished, on foot, and as you pass, certain features will be recognizable.
About the Author
This book is not the first to be written by me, but it is the first to be “officially” published.
The author’s CV would cover at least five pages of closely typed A4 and almost nothing to do with writing in it!
Life started with a reasonably privileged upbringing as an only child, launched into the real world after private school firstly into banking, then on to law, cars, travelling, back to law, a stint in the RAF, then cars, accountancy, building, cars, property speculation, bankruptcy, cars , and finally, migration to France, trying to retire, but finding it impossible!
Perhaps you the reader will forgive me any mistakes in grammar or spelling that may have slipped through the net, and having enjoyed this book will be looking out for the next one, which at the moment has a working title of “The Holiday Crash.”
Maybe the author will be able to retire soon with your help!
