To be good at my job, I couldn’t have any thoughts. I had to lock everything away as each button went through its loop, as my shirt tucked, as my boots were laced. To be the epitome of the perfect citizen I could have no emotions, no thoughts. I had to be a chameleon. Changing myself from a Patriot to blend in with the other citizens. If I forgot my cover, I would catch myself just shy of speaking incriminatingly. In the position I was in, I could afford no mistakes.

Life in Arosova was designed to be simple, equal, but for Sawyer Rivers it never has been. About the Author
Morgan Martinez is currently in her third year at California State University, Dominguez Hills. In spring 2016, she will receive a BS in political science and a BA in English literature. She began writing at age twelve and has continued through out high school and college. It was during a debate in her college political science class when she was inspired to write her debut novel. She currently lives in Southern California, moving between the Los Angeles and San Diego area to spend time with her mother, three younger sisters, and her nephew.
