Prologue: May 2012 Whoooooooosh! An incoming missile hit the ground about two blocks away and caused the earth to tremble in its pain. Vick hurried as he opened his safe to get his passport and money. He had to make it fast. Packing his bags with his clothes, he looked fondly at his guitar in the corner of his bedroom, his new American style bedroom in his new home he enjoyed so much. As he glanced at his bathroom, he thought of all the imported things he had brought in to make it just like the pictures of homes in California and had cost him so much money. Money! But what is money if you can’t live like an American! He’d better take all that he had in the safe with him. Protests had been going on ever since April all over Syria. People called this the “Arab Spring.” “Resign, Resign, Bashar al-Assad,” chanted the rioters. Some had thrown Molotov cocktails. “Look out, here comes the soldiers,” cried another. The soldiers commenced firing on the hapless people because they were told to quell the uprising. Months had gone by with the military firing on the people in crowds. It turned into an armed rebellion. All over the country scenes like this were taking place. “Damn!” Thirty-one year old Vick had looked in his closet one last time saying “Au Revior” to his classy Armani suit. He wouldn’t need it in Egypt, that’s for sure. It’s always hot there, unlike his beautiful Damascus which would get cold in the winter, even had snow sometimes. The damned security forces shot people dead in Deraa and that started the last few days of violence that was spreading all over Syria. Here in Damascus there were too many protests. They all wanted the prisoners that were being held for their political beliefs to be released. They hadn’t harmed anyone! He had been a prisoner once, himself. He didn’t want that experience repeated, that’s for sure, though he was also sure he would survive it again. He knew how to talk to those police,” he thought.

About the Book
Vick, a Syrian Muslim from Damascus, according to his passport, leaves Syria after being arrested for an interest in the Free Masons when the Civil War was raging and found refuge in Egypt. Unknown to everyone is that his birth mother was Jewish and he wishes to find a way to go to Israel and find her. How he manages to live and search for information about Judaism takes him on an amazing journey.
About the Author
Nadene Goldfoot has been an educator all her life, from teaching in elementary school in Oregon and jr high in Safed, Israel to a community college level in the GED program as well as ESL in Oregon. She made aliyah to Israel to teach English as a Foreign language in 1980 and returned to Oregon during Thanksgiving of 1985. She became very active in defending Israel and started blogs in order to do this. Her idea was to simplify the news about Israel and condense it for people who had little time out of their busy schedule to read. When she retired she was able to join facebook in order to find more relatives in her pursuit of her family genealogy. There she met up with a youngSyrian who had discovered that his birth mother was Jewish and wound up advising and friending him as well as helping him with his English and Hebrew. From this friendship grew a story she felt must be told. Nadene lives in Gresham, Oregon where she continues to write in her blogs defending Israel. She has two children and a grandson of which she is very proud. Her newest addition to her family is a rescued 7 year old Lhasa Apso female, Molly, who insists on getting her out at 5:00am for a morning romp. This is healthy as Nadene felt she was becoming addicted to her computer and was missing out on walking.
