A very long time ago, in fact it was well over 2000 years ago; there lived a very nasty scorpion named Dodai.
Dodai was the good friend of Satan. Dodai and Satan were very excited one day as they watched Jesus walk into the wilderness.
“Dodai,” said Satan, “This is my chance! Let’s watch Jesus and see what He does. I’m sure we can talk Him into following me.”
Dodai scooted over to watch Jesus. For days, Dodai watched Jesus pray to God. Dodai saw that Jesus ate nothing day after day and only drank water from the little streams and only slept when He couldn’t stay awake any more.
Dodai listened as Jesus said His prayers to God. Jesus told God that He was ready to begin sharing God’s message with the people of the world. Jesus also told God that He knew that now was the time to fast, pray and get ready for the job of spreading God’s message.
Dodai could see that Jesus was getting weak from hunger and yet Jesus continued to pray to God. For forty days and forty nights Jesus prayed for help from God, for the job He had ahead of Him of doing God’s work and spreading the word of God.
After forty days of watching Jesus on His knees praying, Satan finally spoke to Jesus, as Dodai watched. “Jesus,” said Satan, “I can see that You are very hungry. If You are truly the Son of God, I’m sure You can turn one of these rocks to bread.”
Dodai thought that Jesus looked confused to hear the voice of Satan.
“Jesus,” Satan tried again, “You should be able to do anything! You are very hungry and You need something to eat. Just change one of these rocks to bread. Then You can eat and will not be hungry anymore,”
Dodai watched Jesus slowly stand up and say to Satan, “The scriptures say that man does not live by bread alone. Man must also have God’s word.”
Dodai and Satan watched Jesus for a while longer. Then Satan made Jesus think He was on the roof of the temple.
“Jesus,” said Satan, “You are sleepy and weak, let Yourself fall into the arms of the angels. You are the Son of God and You will be saved from hitting the ground and protected by the angels.”
Dodai watched as Jesus carefully and calmly folded His hands together and said to Satan, “It has been written that you shall not tempt the Lord thy God.”
Jesus turned and slowly walked up the hill.
Again, Satan watched Jesus, and Dodai followed Jesus up the hill.
This time, Satan showed Jesus the many cities below, as Jesus sat down.
Dodai watched Jesus as Satan said, “All that You see will be Yours! All You need to do is worship me, follow me and bow down before me!”
Dodai watched Jesus try to stand up straight. Dodai could tell that Jesus was very weak, very hungry, and very angry.
“Be gone Satan!” said Jesus. “It has been written that all shall worship the Lord our God and only Him.”
Dodai could see now that Satan was very, very angry, but Satan disappeared. Dodai knew that although Jesus was very weak from hunger, He was stronger than Satan and Dodai followed Jesus down the hill to make sure he was safe from Satan.
At the bottom of the hill, Jesus was met by angels. Dodai knew that Jesus would be safe now and would find food soon. Dodai felt blessed that he had met someone who was stronger than Satan.
