All employees should have performance standards. These documents are very important as they measure performance in black and white. It is a helpful tool for both the employee to stay on track with their goals and for the supervisor to determine if goals have been met or not. Salary increases may often be based on performance standards. This makes an often daunting task easier. The performance standards should be developed between the employee and the immediate supervisor. When a goal has been completed, the employee has met the standard for that task. If it has not been completed, the standards has not been met.

About the Author
Willi Baer has been involved in the non-profit world since the 1970's both as a staffer and board member rising from a coordinator's position to the President/CEO of a state agency. She has been the recipient of many awards and honors for her work in her home state and nationally. Recently Willi was named "Citizen of the Year" in her home town by the Town Council as well as "Volunteer of the Year" by the local Chamber of Commerce. Willi continues to facilitate board and staff retreats whenever called upon. She is known for her in-depth, no-holds-barred, tell-it-like-it-is board and staff training.
