About the Author
A graduate of Barnard College, with a masters from University of Virginia and a doctorate from Columbia, mother of three amazingly diverse and well-traveled and well-read sons, Frances Connell has been published in more than two dozen literary magazines and anthologies, including Pig Anthology, Baltimore Review, Potomac Review, Negative Capability, Monocacy Valley Review, and Excursis, and in the Washington Post, and The Christian Science Monitor. In addition to previously teaching writing, oral history and international development at the University of Pennsylvania, Kabul University, St. Mary's Seminary and University (Baltimore), George Mason University, and Montgomery College, and running refugee resettlement programs in the Maryland and D.C. area, she currently teaches for the University of Maryland University College. During graduate and undergraduate studies, she worked with Elizabeth Hardwick, Peter Taylor, Joy Chute, Alan Williamson, and more recently participated in small poetry workshops with Sarah Cotterill and Marvin Gavin. She is completing another novel, a collection of travel poems, and a nonfiction book on Afghanistan in the late 1970's, and currently lives in New York City.
