Pie in the Sky

One day, not too long ago, and not too far away, Molly and Katy went out in a canoe. Katy’s hair is yellow. Molly’s hair is brown. While gliding along on the still water of the Atchafalaya (pronounced a-cha-fa-ly-a) River, Katy pointed up with the index finger of her left hand. “Look Molly! Dragon flies! They’re so pretty. I wish I could be like them and be up high in the sky!” But Molly wasn’t paying attention to her friend. She was thinking about catching fish and wishing she had brought along a fishing pole and some wriggly worms. “What did you say, Katy?” asked Molly. “Did you say you want to be a pie in the sky? You see, what Katy said with her mouth and what Molly heard with her ears sounds the same but has a very different meaning! Katy said she wanted to be up high in the sky. But Molly heard Katy say she wanted to be a pie in the sky! This was the beginning of a very long and confusing conversation!
