About the Author

I, Valery Joy Frazier Kelley, was born August 19, 1959 to John Delaney Frazier and Anna Bell Carter Frazier. My love for writing poetry began at the age of 12. My first poem was entitled "Love". Publishing a book of poetry has been my dream and ultimate goal for many years. I am so grateful to the people in my life who trusted and had faith in me to accomplish this goal. I am most humbled to God for giving me the inspiration to write on various subjects and speak for others through my writings. I attended Craven County public schools and earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in English Literature and Speech Communications from Fayetteville State University In 1981. While attending, I served as literary Editor of The Voice. I am a retiree of the Federal Government after serving 35 years and am currently a substitute teacher in the Craven County school system. Every year I'd say that this is the year I am publishing my book. Finally, here it is ! It is my prayer that God would allow me to see this publication to the end. It is my desire that my supportive husband, James and children, Ja'Va Paris Kelley and James Christopher Kelley Jr witness my works.James and I reside in Havelock, N.C. Also, it's a blessing that my Mom and my siblings: Barry, Deborah, Shirley, Alan and Ricky can share in my joy. Others who gave great inspiration and support were my grandmother, the late Nettie Morris Carter and stepfather, Onsalee Frazier. My motto is "Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you" and other joys include church & community outreach, singing and word games. My family, friends and Zionites of the Harlowe Community and abroad know the meaning of "over the creek" from whence I come! I have resided on both sides and thought it fitting to name this book. I have been compared to many authors, but simply desire that my poems are heartfelt. To all of the above to include aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews who have supported me through the years, I dedicate this book.
