About the Book

I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN INTRIGUED BY AN OASIS. IN THE MIDDLE OF A VERY HOT DESERT, AN ISOLATED AREA OF VEGITATION, SURROUNDED BY A BEAUTIFUL SPRING, PICTURES A GARDEN OF PARADISE. THIS OASIS IS SO IMPORTANT TO TRAVELLERS, SO THAT THEY CAN REPLINISH THEIR WATER SUPPLIES, AS THEY GO ABOUT THEIR JOURNIES. A SOURCE OF LIFE FOR MIGRATING BIRDS. IMAGINE, CRYSTAL CLEAR WATER, FORMED BY AN UNDERGROUND RIVER, IN THE MIDDLE OF SOME OF THE HOTTEST PLACES ON EARTH, WITH PALM TREES IN THE COOL SHADE. TO THIS, I BELIEVE THAT EVERY PERSON HAS THEIR OWN OASIS WITHIN THEMSELFS. SOMETIMES, WE JUST HAVE TO FIND IT. A PLACE THAT IS SO WAY OUT THERE, THAT SOMETIMES PEOPLE DON’T WANT TO MAKE THAT JOURNEY, BCEAUSE IT IS EITHER TOO HARD TO GET TO, OR THEY DON’T BELIEVE ITS WORTH THE EFFORT. I HAVE ALWAYS BELIEVED IN THAT PLACE OF BEAUTY. WHERE THE PUREST WATERS ARE SURROUNDED BY SHADES OF GREEN AND WHERE THIS PLACE IS AS IMPORTANT TO EVERYONE ELSE, AS IT IS TO ME. WHERE THE UNDERGROUND RIVERS WITHIN US, RISE UP TO MEET THE TASKS AT HAND. I HAVE SEEN THE WELL PAVED PATHS THAT HAVE LED TO PROMISED PALACES, BUT I WOULD RATHER TAKE THE WINDY DUNES OF THE SAND, TO MY AWAITING OASIS. Kenny Lord

About the Author

Kenneth Keith (Kenny) Lord (Miller) was born in Toronto, Canada, to a very young teenager and at two years of age, became a Crown Ward of the Toronto Children’s Aid Society. After being in their care and Foster homes for a few years, he went through the International Adoption process and was adopted to a Jamaican family and went to live in Kingston, Jamaica. For many years, Kenny was raised by his adopted grandparents and was fortunate enough to be educated at the prestigious boy’s Private boarding school, DeCarteret College, in Mandeville, which is in the centre of the Island. At 17 years of age, he returned to Canada to further his education and to find his biological parents. Kenny attended London South Secondary school in London, Ontario and graduated with his high school diploma. He then attended George Brown College in Toronto where he took the three year Watchmaking program. Immediately after College, he was hired by Birks Jewellers in Toronto as a Watchmaker. About two years later, Kenny had a change of heart and began a career in the Security field that would last a few years. He went back to College and graduated from Seneca College in the Police Science programme. Eventually, Kenny was fortunate enough to be hired by the Toronto Police Service as a Cadet, graduating from the Ontario Police College and the Toronto Police College and was then sworn in as a Police Constable, where he is now in his 25th year. He is married and is the father of three adult children. He lives in Whitby, Ontario, which is a part of the Greater Toronto Area. Three of the Poems in this book, were written when Kenny was living in Jamaica, as a young teenager, while attending DeCarteret College. Throughout the years, he has written poetry as a hobby and has kept most of them. This book is a collection of poetry throughout the years that he has decided to publish in a book for your enjoyment.
