The Earth Tablet ‘ Every stone and drop of rain, Winter rose and blade of grass, Resides in the bliss of ignorance, All the things that come to pass, All but the curious animal mind, Know the unknowable and comprehend The most intimate secrets of time, That is life’s gift for Their obedience. ’ When you’re eyes recognized the spring And foresaw the rainstorm in the trembling air Your memory was brought to life Planting the seed of all your joy and turmoil Keeping stored in shattered fragments Intense moments of terror, pleasure, Rapture and disillusionment The knife and hammer Of new experience Sculpted you into a solid substance Forever marking in your intuition The uses of suffering You scraped your knees against the gravel And began to walk uprightly You put your fingers against the fire, And Learned to suspect Even the flames of love You dipped your feet in cold water Becoming cautious of the oceans Mantric hum The invisible wind bended the Wilful tree Making you fearful of the unseeable And the unseen Swindled by your blunt senses To trust the unchanging face Of the natural elements.
